to simplify my holiday meals, I write everything down that needs to be done and prioritize items. I find that if I have things written down, my day/meal/life goes so much easier. I'm not stresing out at the last minute or running to the store trying to find something I need.

I simplify by planning ahead and trying to do as much as I can the weeks leading up to the big holidays, that way I'm not in a hurry when the time comes.

We stopped doing the "traditonal" and made up our own- Pizza for Christmas dinner with rootbeer floats! Easy, even made from scratch, and so yummy no one ever complains!
ReplyDeleteFor Thanksgiving, we skipped the steps and do Hot Turkey Sandwhiches, Veggie tray, and a few side goodies. If we get the hankering for other traditional things, we just spread them out over that long weekend, different things on different days, and it works just fine, and we're never over stuffed!

I simplify by having the whole family pitch in. Everyone helps from the youngest who mixes the ranch dip with sour cream and places the carrots and cherry tomatoes in the appetizer tray to the older ones who help sort through recipes and make things like homemade cranberry sauce. The holidays are supposed to be about togetherness.

We simplify by cooking elements ahead - for instance, buy a 5-lb chub of ground beef, cook it all at once, and then freeze it in one-pound increments. We do this all year. We also have two or three cookie baking nights where we bake several different kinds of cookies - it ends up being faster and easier that way.

I make a few pies, a couple batches of cookies, and go home with leftovers. {Hopefully, she won't see this, but if she does: I Love you}
