Frugal Friday: Save Money on Your Water Bill

Several months ago we replaced the shower head on one of our showers.  I purchased a Delta Water Saving Shower Head at Home Depot.  I wasn't sure if we would like the low flow shower head but I thought we should give it a try.  It turns out we really couldn't tell the difference and we had gone from using 2.5 GPM (gallons per minute) to only using 1.5 GPM.  When I received our water bill the next month, I noticed it was $10 lower than usual and the only change we had made was the shower head.  So yesterday I went back to Home Depot and bought another Delta Water Saving Shower Head and also bought faucet aerators for all the bathroom sinks & kitchen sink.  I can't wait to get our water bill next month!  That's not a statement you hear everyday.

What do you do to help save money on your water bill?

Another great way to save money on water is a  Rain Barrel. We made this Rain Barrel as a Family (& Home School) project at a FREE workshop at my husband's office. There is information here on Rain Barrels and Kansas City Rain Gardens.

Here is a video on how to build a Rain Barrel (If you are reading in an e-mail or RSS Feed, go here to see the video.):

  2. I'm visiting from Life as Mom. We have aerators on our faucets. Since they came with the house, I can't give you a comparison. But I do have a tip. Every so often, maybe once a year or if they start running slow, take them off and clean them. In our area, we tend to get small stones trapped in the grating. Its very easy to do. The most difficult part is remembering to do it. :-)
