Last June we attended the Christian Home Educators Fellowship (CHEF)- Missouri Conference and had the privilege of hearing Ken Ham (founder of the Creation Museum) speak. Since the conference I have read several of his books (Already Gone- a must read for every Christian parent) and we are even using some of the Answers in Genesis curriculum. There has been a lot of discussion in our home about evolution and so we decided that we should have a talk with our 6 year old son.
I sat down with him one evening and gave him a simple explanation about evolution. When I finished talking I looked at him and could see the wheels were turning in his mind. I started to panic as he slowly processed the information I had presented. My heart started pounding and I started to question how I explained evolution. Did I explain it correctly? Was it too detailed? Not detailed enough? Did I just turn my son into an atheist evolutionist? After about 30 seconds that seemed like an eternity, Connor looked at me and said "Mommy, I am really sorry to use this word but that is just dumb. Monkeys can't turn into people."
After breathing a deep parental sigh of relief we then looked at the book of Genesis and discussed what the Bible says about creation.
Sharing the word of God with my son, Connor, is definitely one of the
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)
