Declutter Challenge: July Update

This month I worked on cleaning out closets and organizing clothing in storage. Oh my! Did our closets need some organization!  We donated 3 boxes of clothing to our church's Annual FREE Clothing Give Away.  Go here to see all of the other items that have left our house this year.

Total for July = 163 items have left our home!

Total for the Year =  864

Declutter Challenge May Update

I can't believe it is already June!  I am excited though because it is summer!  Time for swimming, picnics at the park, lazy afternoons and of course some organizing.  April and May were great months for me, I was able to get rid of a lot of clutter.

All of the clothes above came out of my closet.  If I did not wear it in the last year, if it didn't fit or if I just didn't like it I got rid of it!  I got rid of 27 items in my closet.

This picture is all of the stuff that is headed to our local thrift store.

  • 1 Lawn Chair

  • 1 Ice Cream Maker (We got a new one!)

  • 85 Record Albums (don't ask!)

  • 1 Swiffer Broom (for some reason I had 2)

  • 1 Easter Basket

  • 27 Clothing Items

  • 1 Broken Lawn Mower (not pictured)

  • 97 Miscellaneous Items

Total for May = 214 items have left our home!

Total for the Year = 701

Declutter Challenge April Update

During the month of March I cleaned and organized our basement. I started collecting items for our April Gargage Sale. I also cleaned out closets, cupboards, drawers & dressers.   We had a total of 487 items in our garage sale!!  All of the items that did not sell were donated to the Salvation Army.

I forgot to take pictures of our garage sale but here are the pictures of all of the stuff that was in the sale.

487 things out of the house and 243 (at least) to go!  Now it's time to get started organizing the garage.

Declutter Challenge

I just discovered the Declutter Challenge that Amy at The Finer Things in Life is hosting.  I don't know how I missed the first 2 months of this challenge.  Well, I have been on a decluttering and purging spree lately so I am going to join the challenge.  The challenge is to get rid of 2 items per day for the entire year.  That equals 730 items for the year.  I feel lighter just thinking about that!!!

Even though I am joining the challenge late, I still have a good start with my Basement Reorganization project.  We are planning a garage sale in April, so I have been boxing up and storing all of the junk very valuable stuff from my cleaning, organizing and purging in the garage.  Any items left after the garage sale will be donated to a local thrift store.

I was so motivated by my basement project that I cleaned out my son's play room, some cabinets in the living room and a kitchen cabinet.  I think I will start working on the closets next.  Spring is the perfect time to sort and purg clothing.

I don't have an exact count of all of the items I have removed but if I had to guess, I would say at least 200 items are leaving our house!  I will update with an exact count when we have our garage sale in the next couple of weeks.

Here are some pictures of the things being stored in the garage for the garage sale.  I don't want anyone to think I am cheating!!  Looking at the garage makes me think it could use some organizing and purging as well.
