Baking Day

I made the Pita Pockets today and they turned out Delicious!!! My son and I ate a whole one plain while it was still warm. YUM!! I can't wait to make sandwiches for lunch tomorrow! I also made a quadruple batch of Spaghetti meat sauce. I used 2 batches to make Dream Spaghetti Casserole (1 for tonight & 1 for the freezer) and the other 2 batches I divided and put in the freezer. This will make some quick meals in the future. I didn't get to the Homemade Laundry Soap. I might make it after dinner tonight or maybe tomorrow morning. I also didn't get to the cookies or scones (probably better for my waist line - LOL). I did get 3 Freezer meals prepared and I baked a loaf of Amish Bread. I think it was a very successful day!

I prepared the Pita Pocket dough in my bread machine.

These are the Freezer Meals that I prepared (Asian Chicken, Creamy Tortilla Chicken, Italian Mozzarella Chicken)

The rectangle pans are the Dream Spaghetti Casseroles and the 2 round pans are spaghetti meat sauce. I bought these Martha Stewart Glass Pans at K-Mart several years ago. They came with the green plastic lids on the right. I love to use these for casseroles and sauces in the freezer. They are perfect because the lid seals and they are reusable. These are still available at K-Mart and are reasonably priced. They are also frequently on sale.

Baking Day 6/23

Today is baking day! I have already started a quadruple batch of Spaghetti meat sauce in the crockpot and the dough for the pita pockets is in the bread machine. I am going to start on the Cinnamon Chip Scones (a Tupperware mix that I got for FREE) and start preparing my freezer meals (go here for the recipe links). I have to agree with Money Saving Mom that it is very HOT today making my kitchen extra HOT!! Baking days are just not as fun in the summer. My favorite time to have baking days is when it is snowing. Well, I am sure we will have plenty of those days this winter!

Spaghetti Meat Sauce - I put all of the ingredients and the raw beef in the crockpot and cook on high for 4-5 hours.

Tomorrow is Baking Day!

Money Saving Mom is having a baking day tomorrow and I am going to join her! Here is what I will be making tomorrow.

Pita Pockets (I have never tried this before. I can't wait to see how they come out!)

Cinnamon Chip Scones (this is a mix I received for FREE from Tupperware)

I am also going to prepare some freezer meals with meat I purchased on sale.

Asian Chicken (the recipe calls for pork tenderloin but I am substituting chicken)

Dream Spaghetti Casserole x2 (I prepare the sauce in the crockpot and then put together the casseroles and freeze them. When freezing them, assemble the casseroles and let them cool. Do not add the mozzarella cheese on top. Then cover and place in the freezer. To heat them: place in a 400 degree oven and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes or until heated all the way through. Add the mozzarella cheese during the last 15 minutes of baking.)
Finally, I am going to make a batch of Homemade Laundry Soap.

Homemade Bread

One of my favorite ways to save money is by baking my own bread. Not only if it fresh & yummy, but it is so easy. It also costs pennies to make. This is my favorite recipe for bread to make sandwiches and toast.

Amish Bread

  • 2 cups wheat flour & 3/4 cup white flour

  • 2 tablespoons wheat gluten

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon dry active yeast

  • 1/4 cup canola oil

  • 1 cup 2 tablespoons warm water

  1. Add ingredients to bread machine pan according to the manufacturers instructions.

  2. Set bread machine to dough cycle for 1.5lb. loaf.

  3. When dough cycle is complete, remove the dough and place in a lightly greased loaf pan.

  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
